Despite its depiction in western movies, a quick draw duel was actually quite rare in the old wild west. Most gunfights were spontaneous rather than planned and were often fuelled by alcohol. Despite this
there were a number of notorious quick draw gunslingers with perhaps Billy the Kid being the best known not least because he shot dead 26 men by the time he died at the age of just 21yrs old on July 14th, 1881, having been shot by local Sheriff Pat Garrett. Another lesser known quick draw gunfighter was James 'Killin' Jim Miller who first lost his parents then after he had moved in with his grandparents they were murdered when he was just eight years old. By the time he died he claimed to have killed 51 men.
