Red Indian Game
Before we start we have called this game a "Red Indian" game only to draw attention to the fact that the term "Red Indian" is no longer politically correct and many native American's find the term derogatory not least because of its association with the old colonial British. Today
Native Americans or American Indians is the proper term whilst in
Canada the term "First Nations " is used. Incidentally the term "Red Indian" was used not because of the colour of the skin but because of the red war paint used and the native Americans were called Indians because that is where Christopher Columbus thought he had landed in the late 15th century.
In this "Red Indian" game you are a warrior out to protect your village from encroachment by European settlers. In this area lived the Apache, Hopi, Navajo, Pueblo and Zuni tribes. Encroachment was particularly troubling not because native Americans were driven from their traditional lands and subject to fatal European diseases, but the area have few natural resources with droughts being common in an area where rainfall was just 10cm a year despite being surrounded by two great river systems of the Colorado–Gila–San Juan in the west and the Rio Grande–Pecos to the east.
